We have needs for volunteers to assist with food packing and distribution, event support, reading to youth in the playcenter, and helping with other program needs. Buddies will be paired with our adaptive athletes to help guide them through different activities and provide verbal and emotional support. No sports expertise is necessary for this role, just patience and positivity. This program will take place on Tuesday evenings, 6pm-7pm, from September 17th through October 29th. We will not meet the week of October 6th, for Newton County Fall Break. Activities will be conducted on Legion Field or in the old Theme School Gym behind the Board of Education- Both are within walking distance of the Covington YMCA. Ages 12-15 may also be buddies with the supervision of a parent.

Then stay for the one-mile fun run and the exciting 5K race. The Fuzz Run also features the Expo. Meet local business owners and learn about all the products and services they offer to Covington and the surrounding area. Their mission is to guide them towards positive futures through counseling, education, stable employment, and secure housing. Join us in supporting The Covenant House of Georgia by helping to package 300 hygiene kits for the youth. This sacred ground is overgrown and in need of care. We’re calling for volunteers to help restore dignity to the cemetery by clearing leaves, branches, and debris, and righting toppled headstones. We are seeking volunteers to assist with the set up, event operations, and clean up for our Holiday Extravaganza community event! Our event will include pictures with Santa, cookie decorating, a hot cocoa station, and so much more! The event will take place between 11am-2pm on December 9th. Volunteers will be required to arrive at 10:30am.

Afterschool aides are vital to ensure the success of all participants in our programs. As an aide, you will be working directly with the participants' family as well as the Youth Development Director to create a memorable experience this school year. This role helps provide effective support and ensures an inclusive experience for all participants. Our Afterschool Program serves students in grades Kindergarten-3rd. We are looking for a volunteer who enjoys working with students in this age group and are willing to help with crafts, read-aloud time, and enrichment clubs. Our program runs at Forest Ridge Apartment complex from 2:15pm-6:00pm on days that Cobb County Schools are in session. You will be required to complete a Background Check and acknowledge our Youth and Teen Safety Policy Waiver and complete the training before you can begin volunteering with youth.

Responsibilities: • Assist members with their school’s homework assignments • Look over member’s homework assignments for errors • Teach youth in elementary education in subjects of reading, writing, math, etc. • Help members correct homework errors not by telling them the correct answers, but by helping guide him/her to the correct answer on his/her own • Teach or listen to children read • Assist with tracking members who complete homework to award Power Hour points • Communicate in a way that youth understand and comprehends • Establish open and honest communication with youth Expectations: • One-on-One tutoring: dedicate at least 45 minutes to meet with a member (staff will assign you with a specific group either K-2nd or 3rd-5th) • Support the teaching of youth on how to read, write, math, etc. • Treat all members, volunteers, parents and staff with respect • Define all expectations of one-on-one tutoring with members; define your role as homework “helper” and not just homework “corrector” • Answer member’s questions using personal knowledge and problem-solving skills – ask supervisor for assistance when necessary • Provide homework help and tutoring sessions with patience and respect • Discuss concerns directly with supervisor and/or Clubhouse Director • Take responsibility for your actions

Primarily responsible for swimmers ages 5 through 18. The coach would be available to coach on week day evening practices as well as weekend swim meets. Responsibilities include: coaching swim team practices, building strong confident swimmers through our junior swim team program, creating swim workouts for practice groups, monitoring swimmer safety and behavior, and coaching meets as directed by the Head Coach. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY -Provide a safe and quality competitive environment to train and motivate young athletes in the sport of swimming -instruct swim team participants on swimming stroke techniques and assist with skill improvement as outlined and directed by Head Coach. -Plan and supervise daily workouts as assigned by the Head Coach (will not leave the group unsupervised for any reason) - Monitor pool activities during swim meets and practices; evaluate individual and team performance, explain techniques and assist with skills improvement. - Monitor aquatics facility and guests, and assures compliance to rules, regulations, policies and procedure; assure facilities are maintained in a clean and safe condition MEET/ PRACTICE REQUIREMENTS: - Will have availability to coach practice up to three times per week and be available for swim meets three weekends per month - Attends all YMCA scheduled meets and events with team.
